This adaptation would have worked so much better if they had a child actress to play young Amy. I got so mad when a teen ager Amy burns Jo´s book. It works better in the original story when Amy is a child and doesn´t see the outcome of her actions. I did like the adult Amy in this version though. This version brushed off Laurie way too much. In the book he is very possessive over Jo and also over Amy when he first meets her in Europe. I ship Laurie and Amy in the books (and Friedrich and Jo) but it is difficult to find a decent presentation of their love in tv/film version. This is a great video.

Well, I made it to the end, but it was a slog at times (especially the last half hour. Despite cries for it, I'm not expecting Greta Gereig to be nominated for any Oscars as it just isn't that good. YASSSS Saoirse is coming for the awards season (as always. Level 1 I enjoyed Witcher, but I don't want to give a credit to its writing though. level 2 Story-wise it's about the same as the same as the polish 2001 series, which is rated 3. 6 on imdb. I haven't actually read the book or played the games, so perhaps both series are just covering the same stories faithfully. Still, I was stunned how similar they were for about 60% of the time. In terms of dialogue and character development, I don't recall much about the 2001 series, but the new one is relatively mediocre. Hopefully the writing will improve, because I doubt the high-quality production and an interesting setting can carry more than ten to twelve episodes. level 2 Hey, you take that back. I'll have you know it's based on the winner of 3rd Place in a small Polish magazine's contest. level 1 I really enjoyed both Witcher and Little Women. Especially Little Women. I never cared about the story before but the way Gerwig told it elevated the material. The juxtaposition between the idyllic, optimistic days of youth and the sobering reality of adulthood really worked for me. And my wife said it was very true to both the events and spirit of the book as well. level 2 This was my experience as well. The timeline funkiness in Little Women added a vital layer of intrigue. I watched it on a whim, expecting it wouldnt be for me, and ended up loving it. level 1 Little Women had good cues about the timeline change with a generous use of warm and cold colour correction, the Witcher needed something of that sorta level 1 the witcher needed better cues when it switched... I was seriously confused having not read the books. level 2 Never read the books or played the games and picked it up pretty easily. level 2 I never read the books, barely played the game, and figured it out fine. I think the point was that you weren't supposed to know right away when it was switching. level 2 the witcher needed better cues when it switched They had several. Episode 1 Renfri says Calanthe just won her first fight at roughly the same age as her, but in Ciri's story Calanthe is 50. In episode 3, Geralt hangs out with middle age Foltest but Yennefer goes to the ball where Foltest is only a kid. Episode 4 makes it obvious since Calanthe was dead in Episode 1 yet Geralt meets a Calanthe 15 years younger. Anyone who didn't realise what was going on by Episode 3 probably posts on Instagram while watching shows. level 1 It's a shame the jumbled timeline in witcher counted for nothing and had zero impact on the story other then making some bits confusing for a second. level 2 As someone who had no experience with the Witcher outside of knowing it existed as a property in the world before the show, I think certain scenes were really helped by the mixed timeline. Specifically episode 4, everything at court really tied the show together beautifully for me at least. It made me become way more invested in the series as a whole too, knowing how deep the connection between certain character is. I'm just one person though, so my opinion doesn't mean much, but I really liked the twisted timelines of The Witcher show. level 1 hey, the witcher timeline is not jumbled. The series follows 3 timelines: Ciri starts with the fall of Sintra, Geralt becomes the butcher of Blaviken and Yeneffer starts as a hunchback farm girl. The timelines cross but all 3 are chronological, all 3 line up in the finale. I still dont get why people found this so hard to understand level 2 I understood there were 3 timelines, I just had trouble understanding where they were in relation to each other generally at first. There are clues, some more obvious than others. But if youre not told and not looking for them, youll miss them and I dont think thats on the viewer 100. Also, time jumps by a lot in each timeline. So as a person unfamiliar with the story, you cant necessarily tell when they catch up with each other right away. I feel like they intentionally did this a couple times with Ciris and Geralts timelines, trying to make you think they were about to meet, but then it turns out Geralt is still decades away. level 2 The timeline isn't jumbled so much as it was not properly transitioned. Excluding hunchy yen all the characters more of less looked the same all the time They would switch from time period to time period with no fanfare or notification leaving you to rely on context clues. Sometimes 10-15 minutes would go by and then someone would say something that'd make me go "Oh this is in the past" Now if completely paying attention you'd pick up on the difference in times, but it doesn't change the fact the transitions were very poor. They'd have one scene with Geralt and Yen and then one before they ever met. level 2 I still dont get why people found this so hard to understand The issue with the timelines isn't that they're hard to understand, it's that they make it hard to actually connect with the characters. It starts out great with hunchback Yennefer transforming into beautiful Yennefer, but then it jumps forward 30 years and through a monologue to a dead baby beautiful Yennefer suddenly becomes "I WANT A BABY" Yennefer. It was like a recap of something we never properly got to emotionally experience, so it felt rather hollow. This "emotional recapping" happens quite a few times, in all the timelines. level 2 I didn't find it hard to understand, at all. I did, however, find it quite unnecessary.
